Fans and media react to Mike Evans reaching 1,000 yards for the 11th time

Sunday afternoon was a nail-biter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were trying to secure a playoff spot and get former Texas A&M Mike Evans enough targets to reach 1,000 yards for the 11th consecutive season to pad his Hall of Fame career.

The record became a second thought when they needed a touchdown late in the game to put pressure on the Saints. They drove the field and scored with under 2 minutes left. At that point, New Orleans had the ball, and Evans was 5 yards short of his goal. It looked as if his streak would end and not hit his contract incentive. However, the football gods had different plans in mind, and the Buccaneers’ defense forced a turnover on downs, giving them 36 seconds to get Evans the ball.

Out of Shotgun formation, Baker Mayfield took the snap and fired a short pass to Evans on a short-out route. He did the rest, getting nine yards to finish the game with 89 yards, giving him 1,004 yards through 14 games. It came down to the game’s final seconds, but it was well deserved.
