Not all that long ago, Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wide receiver Mike Evans was just a kid from Galveston — a fact he carries with him every time he returns to the island to give back to the local youth that now look at him as a hero.
“Just playing with them and them asking questions and them competing is everything,” Evans said as he prepared to lead his annual free youth football camp Saturday morning. “It’s fun, and every time I see them, I see myself.”

On Wednesday, The Texas A&M Letterman's Association announced that the 2022 Athletics Hall of Fame Class will feature eight Aggies at the 44th Burgess Banquet on Sept. 2, 2022. Buccaneers' standout wide receiver Mike Evansis among the esteemed list including Triin Aljand, Gary Blair, Luke Joeckel, Bernard King, John Manziel, Chuck McGuire and Mike Scanlin. Evans will be joined by his former teammates, Manziel and Joeckel. The Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame acknowledges athletes whose accomplishments on the field have brought credit to Texas A&M. Since the inaugural class in 1964, hundreds have been inducted.

Mike Evans has been a Hall of Fame player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the last eight seasons, and yet somehow, he’s made an even bigger impact off the field.
One of the many ways Evans helps the people around him is through the Mike Evans Family Foundation, which “focuses on empowering youth, encouraging education and taking a stand against domestic violence.”

On Sunday, Dec. 19, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the New Orleans Saints for a primetime NFC South matchup, six local high school students will be presented with college scholarships through the Mike Evans Family Foundation's Catch for Christmas Scholarship Program. With support from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation Social Justice Fund and AdventHealth, each of the six Catch for Christmas Scholarship recipients will be awarded Florida Prepaid Four-Year University Plans valued at $23,500 each.

Considered the league's most prestigious honor, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, presented by Nationwide, recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field. This is the third consecutive year that Evans has been nominated for the award. Each of the league's 32 nominees were announced today.
"It's an honor to be recognized with the very best in the league for the impact that we make in our communities," said Evans. "I'm blessed to play football for a living, but the true value of our work comes in how we uplift those in need of support. To be nominated three years in a row, it's extremely humbling."

The Buccaneers’ star receiver is proving once again to be a difference-maker off the field both in the Tampa Bay area and back home in Galveston, Texas.
In each of his first seven NFL seasons, Mike Evans has been one of the Buccaneers’ most impactful players. With 8,762 yards and 68 touchdowns in 113 career games, he already owns most of the franchise’s receiving records. But what fans might not realize is that, these days, every yard he gains and every touchdown he scores is perhaps making an even bigger difference off the field.
“Being a professional football player, there are a lot of kids out there that look up to you. To show them it’s about more than football—it’s about helping the people in your community—is important to me,” Evans recently told Bucs Nation. “Those are the kind of players I looked up to when I was growing up.”

“Mike was so approachable and down to earth,” said Landen’s mother, Amy. “And I think one of his children is Landen’s age so he was really able to talk to him on his level.”
Yes, Mike Evans, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wide receiver, hopped on a Zoom meeting with Landen Sapien, an 8-year-old boy who is battling cancer.
“Landen is hard to impress,” admitted Amy. “So to see him slightly starstruck was a neat experience.”
Landen was diagnosed with T-cell leukemia in June of 2019.

On Friday, they came together for a good cause as Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans hosted his Celebrity Golf Outing where his Mike Evans Family Foundation donated $25,000 to the University of South Florida in order to help start a scholarship fund for local students in need of financial assistance. They presented the check before everyone teed off and in turn, Evans' Foundation received a $10,000 matching grant from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation Social Justice Fund, also presented on Friday morning.
