For years, football has been just about as associated with Thanksgiving Day as the turkey and dressing; in Galveston, those two worlds converged in their own special way.

Through their charitable foundation, Mike Evans — the Galveston native and standout wide receiver for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers — and wife Ashli Evans brought food and fellowship to locals in need at his second annual Thanksgiving Luncheon in Galveston on Saturday.

“It’s a blessing to be able to give back to the community who has been so supportive of Mike and I throughout the years,” Ashli Evans said. “Our hope is that everyone is able to enjoy a warm, home-cooked meal for the holidays. We are grateful for all the volunteers who made it all possible.”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans and his Mike Evans Family Foundation recently awarded 13 students with $10,000 and surprised two more with $20,000, totaling $170,000 in college scholarships to help these students pursue their education and goals.

The Mike Evans Family Foundation works to award annual college scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are hardworking and well-rounded but who may not have the opportunity to attend college because of financial reasons. Since Evans and his wife, Ashli Evans, started the Foundation in 2017, they have donated more than $345,000 to help fund college scholarships throughout the country.

The summer heat was sweltering, but when it comes to his continued support for and from his hometown, Galveston native and NFL standout Mike Evans describes it as a different — more loving — type of warmth.

“There are always so many familiar faces coming out to support, and I will always be appreciative to this city,” said Evans, who was back on the island Saturday to lead his annual free youth football camp. “That’s why I’ll always give back and why I’ll always be around.”

Super Bowl Champion and potential future hall of famer Mike Evans hosted his youth football camp for the third year, at his alma mater Galveston Ball High School.

Evans, a Galveston native, credited former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Casey Hampton with the inspiration to hold a camp.

“It inspired me so much and motivated me to be the next player that did this, and I was telling the kids today I hope there will be a few of y’all that can do this,” said Evans. “I’m a big kid at heart, I love them asking all their questions because I know what it’s like to be a kid and that can go a long way.”

Evans hosted the camp to more than 100 kids, for free, ages 8-14 through his Mike Evans Family Foundation.

The event helps fund the Mike Evans Family Foundation, a nonprofit that focuses on empowering youth, encouraging education and standing against domestic violence.

Mike Evans is well-known for his life on the football field, but now he’s found a new medium to talk about his life off of it, too.

The Mike Evans Family Foundation, Evans’ charity, announced on Tuesday that Evans has released a children’s book about his life growing up in middle school titled “The Middle School Rules of Mike Evans”. The book is written by Sean Jensen, a former NFL writer who has had a series of “Middle School Rules” books for various other NFL players.

Evans, who attended Texas A&M in college and was recently inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame last year, gave back to the community in College Station, Texas, by participating in what the school calls “The Big Event.” According to the school itself, The Big Event is a massive community service project that has recently been extended to other schools and countries as well.

The Bucs wideout has been very active with charity work and community service off the field, particularly with his Mike Evans Family Foundation which helps victims of domestic violence. He also frequently does work in his hometown of Galveston, Texas, so his continued work with his alma mater nearby is nothing new.

Evans will be back in Tampa Bay for the 2023 season in a quest to help the team win a Super Bowl and to get his 10th 1000-yard receiving season.

Buccaneers’ players, coaches and staff will wear customized cleats and shoes to support causes that hit home on Monday night.

It is that time of year again. Boxes are arriving to locker rooms around the league, ready to be unveiled. On Monday, December 5, more than 60 players, coaches and staff from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will participate in the NFL's annual My Cause My Cleats campaign, an initiative created for NFL players to reveal their passions off the field and to wear their heart on their cleats. Players choose a cause that has personally impacted their own lives and display that chosen organization or foundation on custom designed cleats. Buccaneers' players and staff will showcase a myriad of colors and personalized art supporting 40-plus different charitable organizations when Tampa Bay hosts the New Orleans Saints for Monday Night Football at 8:15 p.m. ET in Week 13.

The Buccaneers prioritized community outreach during the month of November in a plethora of player-led Thanksgiving efforts.

It is Giving Tuesday, a movement that unleashes the power of generosity around the globe. Several Buccaneers spent time away from football preparation to foster growth in underserved communities through personal, impassioned foundations.

The weather outside Saturday was rainy and cold, but inside there were warm meals and even warmer smiles as the Mike Evans Family Foundation presented its inaugural Heather Kilgore Thanksgiving Luncheon at the Wilbrydge Reception Hall, 2702 Ave. L, in Galveston.

“It means a lot,” Evans, the perennial All-Pro for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Galveston native, said about the event, which was named for his mother, Heather Kilgore. “She’s the reason I am who I am, and she has always been a very giving person.”

For an athlete who did not play football until his senior year of high school, Mike Evans has become one of the most consistent wide receivers in the NFL. Currently in his ninth season, Evans was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round (seventh overall) in 2014. Evans is the only player in NFL history to start his career with eight consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and just the sixth all-time to have 1,000 yards in eight consecutive seasons during their career, joining Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, Torry Holt, Cris Carter and Marvin Harrison. He holds the Buccaneers franchise record for most touchdowns scored (76 entering the 2022 season). In addition, Evans also holds the Buccaneers’ all-time franchise records for receptions, receiving yards, touchdown catches, and 100-yard receiving games. Evans has four seasons of double-digit touchdown receptions, with his career-high of 14 coming in the most recent 2021 season.

On Wednesday, The Texas A&M Letterman's Association announced that the 2022 Athletics Hall of Fame Class will feature eight Aggies at the 44th Burgess Banquet on Sept. 2, 2022. Buccaneers' standout wide receiver Mike Evansis among the esteemed list including Triin Aljand, Gary Blair, Luke Joeckel, Bernard King, John Manziel, Chuck McGuire and Mike Scanlin. Evans will be joined by his former teammates, Manziel and Joeckel. The Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame acknowledges athletes whose accomplishments on the field have brought credit to Texas A&M. Since the inaugural class in 1964, hundreds have been inducted.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mike Evans has been named the Week 16 NFLPA Community MVP after he donated more than $30,000 to support Tampa Bay kids in need while also providing four-year college scholarships for six local high school students.

Catch for Christmas Scholarship Program, with support from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation and Advent Health, is providing Florida Prepaid Four-Year University Plans to Local Students.

On Sunday, Dec. 19, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the New Orleans Saints for a primetime NFC South matchup, six local high school students will be presented with college scholarships through the Mike Evans Family Foundation's Catch for Christmas Scholarship Program. With support from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation Social Justice Fund and AdventHealth, each of the six Catch for Christmas Scholarship recipients will be awarded Florida Prepaid Four-Year University Plans valued at $23,500 each.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today wide receiver Mike Evans as its nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, presented by Nationwide. Considered the league's most prestigious honor, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, presented by Nationwide, recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field. This is the third consecutive year that Evans has been nominated for the award. Each of the league's 32 nominees were announced today.

The Buccaneers’ star receiver is proving once again to be a difference-maker off the field both in the Tampa Bay area and back home in Galveston, Texas.

In each of his first seven NFL seasons, Mike Evans has been one of the Buccaneers’ most impactful players. With 8,762 yards and 68 touchdowns in 113 career games, he already owns most of the franchise’s receiving records. But what fans might not realize is that, these days, every yard he gains and every touchdown he scores is perhaps making an even bigger difference off the field.

“Being a professional football player, there are a lot of kids out there that look up to you.
